Sean O'Connor
Sean came to yoga in a most unremarkable way: In 2004 a new studio opened in his neighborhood and he decided to give it a try. There was no eureka! moment, no kundalini rising, no epiphany – just a gradual realization that the consistent practice was having a significant impact on his life. He was physically stronger, emotionally more balanced and happier – so he kept practicing. Simple. He discovered Shakti and Baptiste Power Vinyasa in early 2006, and was inspired by his teachers to consider becoming a teacher himself. He has studied with and been influenced by numerous teachers both within and outside of the Shakti community, most significantly, Lisa Black and Baron Baptiste. He has completed Level I and Level II trainings with BPYI, as well as introductory and advanced Teacher Assistant programs. The intensity and richness of his Baptiste teacher training programs and his ongoing practice have opened him up to new and powerful ways of being – both on the mat and in his daily life. It’s clear to him that sharing these gifts with others helps keep them alive within him.
Nicole Tsong
Baptiste Certified Instructor
E-RYT 500

Nicole remembers the first time a friend convinced her to attend a yoga class and then watched, speechless, as her friend flew into crow. She was in. She first came to SHAKTI in 2005, drawn in by the heat, the powerful flow and the hands-on teaching style of Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Yoga calmed her mind and opened her body. A weekend teacher training with SHAKTI owner Lisa Black sparked an interest in teaching, and in 2009, she attended Baron Baptiste's Teacher Training Bootcamp Level 1.

She emerged transformed and inspired by the possibilities for teaching and life. She also is a graduate of SHAKTI's Teacher Mentorship Program, and in 2010, completed Baptiste Level 2 teacher training, which took her teaching to another level of power and transformation. She also has trained with master teacher Shiva Rea and practiced with Rusty Wells, Bryan Kest and Ana Forrest. A Certified Baptiste Instructor, Nicole believes a teacher's role is to empower students in their practice and their lives, provide a safe, loving space to grow physically and mentally and to build community. She brings power, authenticity, levity and love to her classes, and she aspires to help her students find presence, joy and freedom through the flow.
Ben Grieshaber
RYT 200

Ben’s love of music and rhythm has sent him around the country performing for crowds some nights and crickets others! Regardless of the circumstance, he has always been grateful for the chance to travel, explore and play. Years of sleeping in vans and on floors, heavy lifting and heavier drumming created a lot of tension in his body. Seeking some relief from the chronic shoulder pain and migraines, he showed up to a power vinyasa yoga class. Shazam! Like magic, he felt the built up tensions in his body melt and begin to fade away. The feeling he got after every class was invigorating and uplifting!

As this practice continued to make shifts in him, the urge to explore further sent him to various workshops with master instructors such as Bryan Kest, Shiva Rea, Ana Forrest and Seane Corn, among many others. It was after attending the Teacher Assisting Program with Lisa Black that he decided he wanted to share this gift with others through the art of instructing. He spent a year studying closely with Lisa Black and many of the SHAKTI team in the Teacher Mentorship Program. Continuing on the path to teaching he has completed Level I training with Baron Baptiste in 2011, The Art of Assisting with BPYI in 2013 and Level II with Baron Baptiste. He holds accreditation with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200.

It is Ben’s intention to guide each class with care and attention focused on healthy alignment while allowing the freedom to find your practice and work intelligently at surfing your own personal edge. His hope is to aid in awakening each and every yogi’s inner passion for life and help bring light to the world one shining heart at a time!

Amy Van Hollebeke
RYT 200

Amy is committed to living a life of joy and teaching classes that connect people to their own joyful potential.
Amy took her first yoga class in 2000 and was so impressed with the teacher that she kept coming back, hoping to catch some of her good energy. Amy quickly realized that the benefit for her was more emotional than physical. Once Amy made the connection between her reaction and her enjoyment of a pose, she realized she could take that off the mat and into the rest of her life. Almost immediately, Amy experienced the gifts yoga can bring and decided someday she would share that with others as a teacher.

When Shakti Bellevue opened, Amy found her home studio and has been practicing there ever since. She jumped fully into the Shakti community, participating in 40-days to Personal Revolution programs and other challenges, along with the Baptiste Foundations Weekend and TAP. Amy completed her 200-hour teacher training at Shakti in the winter of 2012 and entered the Teacher Mentorship Program, working with Zak Endicott, Nicole Tsong and Tina Templeman.

Amy’s classes are challenging, with a playful energy that ensures they are accessible to all practitioners. Her intention is to have each student leave class with a calm mind, an open heart and a joyful spirit.

Chamonix Browne
RYT 200

Chamonix is most passionate about making friends with her students. She loves challenging students to go to their limits and then holding a space for them as they face their struggles and growth. Before she found yoga, Chamonix was stressed, lonely, and holding back on life. Yoga opened doors for her to start living a healthier more vibrant and connected life. In practice, she gravitates towards smooth elegant vinyasas (because they feel beautiful) and long deep holds (because they're transformative). Her classes focus on alignment and breath, teaching students to care for their joints while finding deep meditation and rest. She teaches with joy and laughter is always welcome in her classes. When not doing yoga, Chamonix loves singing and hiking.

Mariko Johnston
RYT 200

Mariko took her first yoga class in 2006 and was immediately drawn to the physicality of the practice. Though she did practice sporadically over the years, she spent the majority of her time in the gym training clients and herself. That all changed in the summer of 2013. Recovering from an injury, Mariko came to SHAKTI looking for something therapeutic and physically challenging. By the end of her first class she knew she had found what she was looking for...plus a whole lot more. She felt like she had found her home on the mat. She began practicing regularly and the physical practice soon became a spiritual practice. As she learned to deepen the mind-body connection, Mariko discovered the power of soulfulness, mindfulness and living in the present.

Mariko is inspired by helping others, learning from others and creating community through the common language of yoga. She loves nothing more than witnessing the evolution of the human spirit once it is discovered and nurtured. She teaches in the hope of sharing the transformative practice of yoga with everyone. She combines her experience and expertise with training, movement and anatomy to create a challenging and safe environment for students to explore their edge. She often encourages her students to surpass their own expectations. Her classes are designed to challenge and strengthen both body and mind.

Mariko completed her 200-hour teacher training at Shakti in 2014 and went on to complete Shakti's Teacher Mentorship Program working with Zak Endicott and Nicole Tsong. She has attended workshops and classes with Bryan Kest, Tiffany Cruikshank, Amy Ippoliti and Annie Carpenter. Mariko is also a certified personal trainer with specializations in corrective exercise and performance enhancement.
